LocatioNet's Fleet and Workforce Management application combines the best of traditional fleet and workforce management services with advanced cellular features. Managers gain better control over the mobile workforce by assigning tasks, sending open orders and communicating with their staff directly using their mobile phones. Workers in the field achieve greater efficiency and productivity with the help of advanced, graphical location and navigation aids. They may receive instructions and updates from dispatchers via SMS, view their current location on a map (fully utilizing MMS capabilities), locate nearby points of interest, and send job status reports, while controlling their privacy settings using WAP.

The application features bi-directional messaging, telephony billing, real-time vehicle and field personnel tracking, history reports and more. Dispatchers may track vehicles and personnel as configurable icons on a variety of maps at various zoom levels, and may even view their location on aerial photos. The application maintains a history of tracked routes at different periods of time, and provides zoning analysis, time and location-sensitive event tracking. The service allows mobile workers to easily locate nearby points of interest (gas stations, parking lots, etc.) while providing them with automatic route calculation and detailed, waypoint-based navigation guidance.

The Technology

Positioning devices vary from regular handsets with Cell-ID or network-based positioning accuracy, to A-GPS handsets. Specialized telematic devices with modems, GPS capabilities and activation controls may also be installed in vehicles. Display and input capabilities vary, depending on the mobile device used (standard WAP-enabled mobile phones, color devices or dedicated car PCs).
